Swat-A-Litterbug

The Swat-A-Litterbug Program is an educational effort administered by the North Carolina Department of Transportation Office of Beautification Programs.

See someone littering or trash blowing from an open bed truck, here’s your chance to report them and teach them the littering laws of our state. Be sure to get the NC license plate number, type of littering offense, date, time and location.

Next, put your reporting into action by:

• Calling HP to report the incident especially if the offender is causing dangerous driving conditions
• Accessing the online report form: Online Swat-A-Litterbug form to report a litterbug
• Calling 877-DOT4YOU (1-877-368-4968).

Upon receipt of the litterbug information, NCDOT will:

• Notify the vehicle owner of the littering offense
• Inform the vehicle owner of the penalties for littering
• Urge the litterbug to stop littering
