At Awaken Childcare it is our mission to create an inviting, beautiful, outdoor learning space for all children to explore and play in a natural setting as well as grow vegetables, fruits, plants, and flowers. We know that in the beginning phases we need to start with the basics that would provide an opportunity for children to explore and use their imaginations in nature. This includes having a sand area, gardens, water exploration, and eventually natural climbing structures.

We are working with the Natural Learning Initiative for their assistance in designing this space to look similar to their POD program where nature is their "third teacher". The goal is to help children gain an understanding of environmental stewardship and food production. The gardening activities will include examining seeds and plants, preparing garden beds, planting, watering, weeding, observing plant growth and garden bugs, harvesting, and even cooking with the food from our own garden.
