Narrative/Scope of Work

Patriots Elementary School started a garden club in October of 2023. The garden club is composed of 3rd, 4th & 5th grade students. These students, along with volunteers, will be responsible for the designing and creation of the garden expansion project. The main areas of focus will be expanding the pollinator garden for supporting the monarch butterflies and expanding/upgrading the produce garden area in hopes to provide produce for our school and community.

Students will create plans for the pollinator section of the garden. This will include the layout, types of plants to be planted, the placement of bird feeders and the best time for the planting to occur. Several itemas have already been purchased, donated, or were already part of the STEM/Garden Class. The students will also be researching the expansion of our produce garden. This will include the use of different types of support systems for the plants, modifying the use of our bucket garden organizer and for investigating the use of vertical gardens along the perimeters of the garden.

The goal of the garden club is to have all of the expansion projects completed by the end of the 2025 school year. This will allow time for the garden club students to collect data and see the progress of both areas through the changing seasons. They will also be able to determine any changes that will need to be made to their plans as they come across areas of concern.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
