Project Purpose:

Our school is unique to our district and state being that we are an exterior access school. Meaning that we have one hallway for our office and the rest of our classroom is only accessible through outside doors. We don’t have bulletin boards that we can decorate in the halls to make our spaces warm and inviting to students. The first thing that students and visitors see when coming to our classrooms is the outside of our building. We would love to make our school more warm and welcoming to our students by beautifying the spaces outside of our classroom doors. Our school is starting a gardening club this year and we would love for one of our projects to be adding a planter box to the outside of each classroom door. Research has shown spending time around plants can increase self-esteem and life satisfaction. We believe through the use of this grant, we will impact our students in a positive way.

Scope of work:

Students, volunteers, and teachers will work together to assemble planter boxes with succulents to go outside of each classroom door at our school. Our garden club will be responsible for the watering and maintenance of the planters throughout the school year.
